Where Can You Go To Learn How To Do Your Makeup

Post collage: This post highlights the pros and cons of Ulta and Sephora makeup classes - from cost, to what you learn, and what you take away. Read my breakdown and see if you should attend!

Well hello there! And happy Th to yous. Today I've got a super comprehensive look inside my experience taking some makeup/skincare classes at Ulta and Sephora. I know it is quite the difference from my nutrient/recipe posts, but I learned a ton from these classes and thought information technology would be a fun post to share with you all!

First off, how many of you knew yous can really accept classes at a local Ulta or Sephora? This is something new that I learned back in 2017. The classes at each store are quite different, and so I'yard going to do a detailed breakdown of everything you need to know - in case this is something yous'd exist interested in trying!

Ulta

How to nourish: the Ulta classes are centered around a specific brand/line of products and are led by make representatives for that production (Non actual Ulta employees). This is a smashing type of class to accept if you want to learn more about a specific brand and grow your awareness almost all that brand has to offer. I learned about the Urban Decay masterclass at my local store when they placed a flyer advertising it into my pocketbook at the checkout line. The class schedules are not listed online. I would recommend calling/visiting your local Ulta (find yours here) or follow the individual Facebook folio for your local store to keep track of their events.

Cost: For the Urban Decay masterclass, a $100 gift carte purchase was required and served as your ticket to the class. Even though they pushed you to buy Urban Decay products at the cease of the form, you did not have to spend your gift card.Since the class I took was just before the holiday season, I was ok with buying the gift card for that amount because I knew some of the people on my gift listing wanted things from ULTA. I likewise knew going into it that I wanted to buy the UD makeup setting spray.

What yous larn:This was the fun part! Up until the class, the just UD product I had owned was the Naked II Palette. I was not super familiar with other products in their brand, so information technology was a good opportunity to endeavor some new things. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that over the course of the 2-hr class, we would be led through applying a full face of makeup (from primer all the mode to setting spray) and that we could utilise ANY and Every bit MUCH of an Urban Disuse product that we wanted to.

The class size was express to 12 people, and we had 5 reps facilitating the class. This was good because anybody got one-on-one help multiple times over the course of 2 hours. The began by asking u.s.a. what our skin type was and if we had any major skin concerns, then went on to match each person with a primer, foundation, and concealer that was suited to their makeup goals.

After we had our color matches, nosotros were able to choose our ain eyeshadow palette, blush, brow products, eyeliners, mascara, setting spray, highlighters/contour powders and bronzers (each rep was close by to give recs if y'all didn't know what to cull. We each had our set of UD brushes to use the makeup with. You could fill up in all the products you used on the sail in the photograph higher up and take notes about the techniques they taught and your thoughts on the products. We were and then led through a stride-past-pace walkthrough of applying the makeup.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the thoroughness of what was taught. We learned what brush to utilize with what production, how to play up our best facial features and right whatsoever pare concerns with products and techniques. I loved the fact that we could try whatever we wanted. I chose to use the Naked Two palette that I already owned because I wanted some suggestions on looks I could create with it that would alter up how I normally use it (being the practical gal that I am!).

When information technology was all said and done, I had on Manner much more makeup than I commonly article of clothing. Information technology was kind of strange to expect at myself! I knew going into it that Urban Decay's signature looks were more full coverage/edgier than I like with my makeup, but information technology was fun to endeavor something new. I was a bit overwhelmed by all the steps and products needed to create my "look," and don't recall what was suggested was applied for everyday wear. Overall, I call up this is a fun brand to experiment if you lot desire a glam/rocker expect for a concert or fancy issue.

What you accept abroad:The form advertorial flyer made the promise that yous would go samples for attending. Unfortunately, this wasn't quite the instance - the samples were distributed on a tiered organization depending on how much money you spent that night, with a $75 minimum purchase. I only spent $50 that evening (and actually ended up returning i of the items considering I didn't like it with my normal makeup routine), then I didn't get any samples!

Below you can see the looks that my friend and I created - although I liked my look, it was way too much makeup for me to wear every twenty-four hours! I will file the info away for a special occasion blazon of night!

Pros:

  • Good way to get familiar with a specific brand
  • You lot can try whatsoever products in their line
  • You lot earn Ulta rewards points for the gift card purchase
  • The individual attention you get ensures yous volition utilize the right products and acquire new techniques

Cons:

  • You can't sign up for the class online or see a schedule online (must contact the shop)
  • No samples provided without a minimum purchase
  • You lot have to buy a $100 souvenir card
  • Sales reps were fairly pushy at the end of the grade

Sephora

How to attend: the Sephora course schedule tin can be accessed here. Y'all just put in your zip lawmaking and information technology volition pull up a listing of classes beingness offered near you. You lot can easily register online with just your name and e-mail.

Cost: Gratuitous for all dazzler insiders (which is besides complimentary - you just need a Sephora account)!

What yous acquire: the theme for the class I attended was all near skincare. Information technology was a ane ½ hour course devoted to helping you identify your pare type, skin concerns, and and so leading y'all through the steps of a proper, individualized skincare regimen. There were viii people in omnipresence in the class (with room for 12) and v Sephora employees (each with their own expertise) leading us through the course.

Once we had our skin type/concerns identified, we were given products that suited our profile and were led through the post-obit steps: makeup removal --> cleansing  --> toning and/or exfoliation --> oil or serum --> eye cream --> moisturizer --> bb or cc foam --> light makeup --> facial spray. If you lot already had particular products in listen that y'all wanted to try for any of these steps, they would swap out anything they recommended with whatever y'all wanted. Seriously, yous could effort anything in the store! Below were some of the products recommended for me (I swapped a few out for others):

How to attend: Cost: What you learn: What you take away: Pros: Cons:

Amore Pacific Treatment Cleansing Oil | Amore Pacific Treatment Cleansing Oil

I LOVED all of the information that was presented and learned so much about the process of good skincare. I had a lot of questions going into the grade and was and so happy that they did an in-depth give-and-take of specific ingredients in peel care products, what they practice, what to avoid, and so on. It was extremely informative. My skin has changed pretty dramatically over the by iii years - I'1000 sure information technology is due to aging and moving from TX --> NE --> MO -- > TN all within 4 years (since the climates are and so dissimilar). It was overnice to get recommendations specific to what I was concerned virtually. I loved that they didn't promote just 1 particular brand and that yous could try a production in any price range.

When the class was over, I had a fresh "no makeup" look that I loved an would wear for casual days at habitation or running errands. My skin felt so make clean, refreshed and moisturized. Plus, I loved the healthy glow that the steps helped me achieve - I truly agree with philosophy presented in class that if y'all care for your skin properly, you will spend less TIME and Money trying to comprehend up issues with makeup and time-intensive makeup techniques.

What you take away: much to my delight, nosotros were given samples of skin care products but for attending. We could also request samples to take home of any product we wanted to try for a few days to make certain it did what we wanted it to. This was so nice because yous actually want to make sure something makes a difference before you invest in it! Below is my fresh/natural look after the class:

Pros:

  • Easy to access the schedule to sign up online
  • Omnipresence is Gratis with no purchase required
  • FREE samples
  • Small class size and lots of private consultation
  • You tin try ANY product you want in the shop

Cons:

  • Classes aren't offered as ofttimes as I'd like and at that place are not many fourth dimension choices (most are merely offered on Sunday mornings and in big cities)

Master takeaway/What I actually utilise/own/purchased - my main takeaways were that I was using toner incorrectly (I should not be using it to take makeup off; merely to color correct), that a cleansing oil would be really helpful for my dry skin (the one I tried felt SO good) and that I was already on the right runway with the serum, eye cream, and moisturizer I was already using. I ended up finding a great bargain online for a Clarisonic with a packet of IT products online later the class, and so I purchased that bundle feeling very confident/informed well-nigh what I was buying. Stay tuned for what I think of the Clarisonic! (Update Spring 2018 - Love the Clarisonic. I can definitely tell a departure in my skin. My pores look and feel so clean. It travels well and stays charged for virtually a calendar week.)

Tips:

  • If you are in the market to effort a Clarisonic - At that place is a great selection on Amazon. You can get bundles with multiple brush heads and most include some great cleansing products - store all their bundles here also (QVC).
  • I have found some true trophy-worthy steals on top-of-the-line skincare products at TJ Maxx. I scored an Ole Henriksen serum kit, a set of Origins masks, and establish a Glow Recipe mask for my friend - they were beingness sold there only because the visitor made a change in the packaging pattern!

I hope that was informative. For more on style await over my style page. It has all my posts in this category. New here?
